Dr. Imad E. Shami is dual board certified oral
and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Craniofacial Surgeon. He is board
certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and
the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. After completion of his
rigorous training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he completed two
very competitive fellowships - one in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery
under the world renowned Craniofacial Surgeon, Dr. Bruce Horswell,
and another in Orthognathic and Facial Aesthetic Surgery under world renowned Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Jeffery Posnick. There are
only a few oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are selected for these
fellowships from all over the United States. There are even fewer oral
and maxillofacial surgeons in the US with Dr. Shami's training; they could only be counted one hand if they even exist.
Dr. Shami completed his dental education at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, he completed his fellowship in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at West Virginia University/Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia. He then completed another fellowship in Orthognathic and Facial Aesthetic Surgery at Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Shami is on staff at several hospitals. He is on a Facial Trauma Team at Inova Fairfax Hospital - a level I trauma hospital - where he treats patients with complex facial trauma and complex Oral and Maxillofacial problems.
